Arts Council Names Rhonda Bellamy Executive Director

Rhonda Bellamy, Executive Director of Wilmington and New Hanover County Arts Council

The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County has a new Executive Director.

WHQR’s Rachel Lewis Hilburn reports that the Board of Directors announced today that Rhonda Bellamy, who has been serving as interim ED, will step into the permanent position.

Rhonda Bellamy took the reins as the acting Executive Director last December – when the Arts Council officially launched.

Bellamy has worked for years as a broadcast and print journalist.  She founded the Black Arts Alliance and the North Carolina Black Film Festival, and has served as the director of that festival from the beginning.  She’s also served on a variety of arts-related boards including the Cameron Art Museum.

In a press release announcing her appointment, Board Chair Philip Gerard says Arts Council Directors looked for – and found in Bellamy -- a leader committed to a 21st century vision that will make the most of the arts as an economic driver in the community.

Bellamy has a one-year contract.

The Arts Council office is located downtown at 221 N. Front Street.
