NC ALE Agents Raid Robeson County Dog Fighting Ring

Twenty-seven people were arrested in Robeson County on Saturday for felony charges involving a dog-fighting ring.

WHQR’s Sara Wood reports North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Agents executed a search warrant with help from numerous state and federal law enforcement officials, from the North Carolina Air National Guard to the FBI.

Agents raided the home of Maxton resident Jimmy Jacobs as the dog fight was in progress. Eighteen dogs were seized and several had serious wounds and scars from previous injuries. The dogs were treated on the scene by veterinarians from both the North Carolina and Atlanta Humane Societies. In addition to the dogs, agents seized tens of thousands of dollars, multiple handguns, various controlled substances, veterinary drugs and dog fighting paraphernalia. Almost every suspect at the dog fight tried to flee the scene on foot, but all were apprehended. The dog fight drew people from both Carolinas, Maryland and Ohio.
