09-13-10 – The swimming season at Wilmington's Legion Stadium Pool came to an end last week, but not before fundraising mutts splashed water everywhere.
Many of the puppies who participated in last week's Pooch Plunge are also frequent visitors to the Empie dog park.
Marian Doherty is a member of the Wilmington Dog Park Committee. She says the proceeds from Pooch Plunge, which usually amount to around $3000, will likely be used to uphold Empie Park, which is the only city-maintained dog playground.
"We have poop bags and things like that we have to replace. Hinges, because it's a very well-used park and with use comes the expense of maintaining it."
In past years, proceeds from Pooch Plunge have gone to humane societies in New Hanover and Pender counties.
