Berger Win Ends Caster's Run as Commissioner

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – New Hanover County Republicans went back to the polls and tapped Brian Berger as their second candidate for New Hanover County Commissioners.

Bill Caster says he thinks the wave against incumbents helped end what will be 18 years on the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners once he steps down.

Unofficial results show Brian Berger beat Caster with 65% of the vote.

Wilmington engineer Rick Catlin landed the first slot on the Republican ticket back in May. Since then Caster and Berger waged a heated campaign for the second slot, a campaign Caster says got too ugly.

"It was the worst campaign I've ever been in. It was the meanest, and nastiest. I don't care for that kind of thing, that's not the kind of person I am."

Catlin and Berger will face democrats Deb Butler and Sid Causey in November for the pair of open New Hanover County Commissioner seats.
