Wilmington, NC – For North Carolina residents waiting on tax refunds, their patience might be tested this tax season.
A lack of cash flow has slowed down the state's tax refunds. A refund usually takes about four weeks for electronic filings, but this year residents can expect the refund to take an addition four weeks.
Revenue Secretary Kenneth Lay says the fluctuation between this year and last years' collected and refunded tax dollars is unpredictable because of the economic downturn.
"Since January, we have sent out more than 1.3 million refund checks and that totals in excess of $900 million."
The North Carolina Department of Revenue is alerting taxpayers about the delay through its website.
