Remembering Robert Delford Brown

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – A prominent member of Wilmington's art community, Robert Delford Brown, has died.

Robert Delford Brown moved to Wilmington from New York City two years ago in anticipation of his exhibition at the Cameron Art Museum. It was the first museum show for Brown who played a role in many of the late 20th Century's major art movements.

Brown's body was found yesterday evening in the Cape Fear River, not far from his home. No foul play is suspected.

Brown collaborated with local artists at the Independent Art Company and helped organize a recent performance art piece with kazoos in downtown Wilmington.

Brown received his Master's of Art from UCLA in 1952.

Robert Delford Brown was 78-years-old.
