Wilmington, NC – The NBC news program "Dateline" is working on a story about remains found by the side of Carolina Beach Road.
The bones have grabbed headlines since their discovery last April in a wooded area off Carolina Beach Road. And now "Dateline" producers are on the case, visiting Wilmington and interviewing police.
Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous says while he's not in the story, his office is.
"Well, they moved all of furniture around and they had lighting everywhere set up in here, multiple video cameras and things of that nature. It was a first class operation."
He says the effort will be worth it if the national spotlight attracts a few solid leads.
"It's kind of a hit or miss. Sometimes it does, a lot times it'll generate a lot of false leads, but every now and then, you gotta treat everyone like it's a righteous one and work it all the way to fruition."
Evangelous says his detectives had to be careful about what they said, since the case on going.
