Wilmington, NC – Carolinas Cement Company, a subsidiary of Titan America, held its first public meeting since New Hanover County Commissioners voted to give the company tax incentives nearly five months ago.
The information tables set up like a business expo attracted about 200 residents, including politicians running for New Hanover County Commissioner.
The company declined invitations for two other public forums. Carolinas Cement Company General Manager Bob Odom, says the company will stick with its own events.
"We've given the public an opportunity now to ask their questions, but we're not interested in forums. This is the way we'll get our information out."
The company says the plant will bring 160 new jobs.
Plans for the Carolinas Cement plant are now under an environmental review by the US Army Corps of Engineers. If approved it would be one of the largest cement plants in the nation.
