Wilmington, NC – Brunswick County is bracing for Tropical Storm Hanna by preparing as if Hanna still had hurricane strength.
Officials in Brunswick County have checked equipment and called a list of residents with special emergency needs to make sure they have a plan.
Brunswick County Emergency Management Director Randy Thompson says even though it's possible the brunt of Hanna will miss North Carolina, now is the time for residents to develop an evacuation plan, especially people who live in low-lying areas or mobile homes.
"If we are going to feel any impact at all, we will certainly be opening shelters and trying to accommodate those to get them out of those vulnerable areas."
Thompson says it's always good during hurricane season for people to keep a three day supply of food, batteries and a portable radio handy.
