Wilmington, NC – For years the North Carolina Rail Division of the DOT has been looking to bring rail service to the Cape Fear region. Watching the price of gas climb in recent weeks got WHQR's Catherine Welch thinking about train service and where the DOT's plans are the area.
Back in 2005, the North Carolina Rail Division visited Wilmington to roll out some optional railroad lines linking Wilmington to the northeast corridor via Raleigh or Rocky Mount.
Since then, the state ports is pushing for a new mega-Port in Southport that will need rail service, and gas prices have jumped to nearly $4.00 a gallon.
Director for the DOT's Rail Division Pat Simmons brings us up to date with where the plans stand today.
