Wilmington, NC – Firefighters in South Carolina are cleaning up smoldering patches of what was a massive wildfire that burned just outside Myrtle Beach yesterday.
Hundreds of wildfires tore across both South and North Carolina this weekend.
Winds fueled the more than 100 fires that burned across North Carolina. Downed power lines sparked some of the fires, leaving tens of thousands of customers in North Carolina and South Carolina without power.
South Carolina Forestry Spokesman Scott Hawkins says the recent drought has made this year's wildfire season more dangerous.
Right now because of this ongoing drought, we are seeing more numerous fires and more aggressive fires.
Residents of Conway, South Carolina near Myrtle Beach are back in their homes after a wildfire burned 200 acres, destroying 15 houses.
