Wilmington, NC – The Brunswick County Solid Waste Department is offering an unusual stocking stuffer this year: crushed concrete.
The Solid Waste Department is selling 2,500 tons of crushed concrete in an effort to recycle useful materials in the Brunswick County Landfill.
Assistant Director Stephanie Lewis says the concrete can be used underneath new roads and driveways. She says the landfill is only selling half of its available concrete.
"And the half of it that's left, the county will be able to use for our road building projects at our landfill and other county facilities and not have to use county funds to pay for rock."
Lewis says so far they've sold 500 tons of crushed concrete, but expects sales to pick up in the spring, when home construction projects begin.
