Wilmington, NC – A grand jury has indicted former New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Long on charges of 2nd degree murder for the death of Peyton Strickland.
Long appeared in Superior Court in Wilmington Monday afternoon.
Long was part of an elite New Hanover County Sheriff's unit that teamed up with UNCW police to issue search-and-arrest warrants for Strickland December 1st. Strickland was shot and killed inside the doorway of his home.
Long was also involved in another shooting incident back in 2001 when he fired at two teenagers inside a car as it moved toward him. No charges were filed again Long in that case.
New Hanover County Sheriff Sid Causey announced Long's dismissal from the department last Friday.
