"Companions," Dog Inspired Paintings by Clair Hartmann

A Collection of Dog Inspired Paintings by Clair Hartmann

Join us on March 28th, 6-9PM in the MC Erny Gallery at WHQR for the Closing Reception - meet the artist, enjoy wine and light refreshments and view "Companions," featuring a collection of dog portraits and dog inspired paintings from local artist Clair Hartmann.

About the Artist:

Clair Hartmann began painting portraits of dogs in 2009 during the Wilmington Riverfront Farmers’ Market. She challenged herself that year to paint one hundred dogs in one hundred days, a project that allowed her to greatly strengthen her skills in dog portraiture. Hartmann’s early artistic inspiration came from her uncle, who was an artist and teacher at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Other artistic influences include Georgia O’Keeffe, Duane Keiser, Arthur Wardel, and Jeremy Lipking. She studied graphic design at The Art Institute and worked as a freelance designer for twenty years before dedicating herself full-time to painting. Clair owns two Jack Russell Terriers, Chumley and Frida. Hartmann says she ventures to distill the essence of each dog, and that she enjoys painting dogs because they make her smile.

About the Gallery:

MC Erny was a devoted friend of WHQR from its earliest days. An accomplished actress and great party host, she was always generous with her time, financial support, and affection for the staff. She worked as a supervisor during many fundraisers and was a weekly presence at the front desk. MC was kind, gracious, elegant, witty and fun to be with. Our gallery space has been named in her honor.

The MC Erny Gallery is located in WHQR's studio in The Warwick Building at 254 N. Front Street, downtown Wilmington. Call WHQR at (910) 343-1640 for more information. The Gallery is open Monday - Friday from 10am - 4pm and during Fourth Friday Receptions.
