Scotopia: Short Plays to Help You See in the Dark is a new production by MoB Theatre, producers of “Wilmington Reconstructed”, “Out, NC”, “Quilt Stories”, and other local productions. MoB Theatre is a grassroots theatre ensemble-based company located in Wilmington, NC that creates theatre for social change.

Scotopia~ noun: the ability to see in dim light or darkness.

Scotopia is an eclectic series of short plays ranging in genre that address modern social issues through a scope that inverses norms, and challenges perceptions.

Surrender assumptions and enter a dream you’ll awake from with resolutions, and ideas. Don’t be afraid of the dark- hold my hand, I'll lead you through.

In the shadows you’ll find a starving wolf, 27 indictments against a man you may know, Karen, a butterfly birth, and a modern day martyr with bleeding palms.

Scotopia will premier 8 short plays to the Wilmington area, all carefully curated from new play festivals from all around the country.

Plays featured include:
Laila Pines for the Wolf by Hassan Abdulrazzak from Lighting the Way - a retelling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood story with a climate crisis twist.

The Line by D.W. Gregory from Out of Silence - a woman waits for a protest to die down outside an abortion clinic.

Shadow Day by Steven Dietz from Naked Angels - a Rush Limbaugh style radio host has a mysterious encounter.

True to You by Kenneth Lonergan from Naked Angels - a morally questionable insurance executive begs his secretary for help.

Just Another Saturday in the Park by Bernard J. Tarver from The Fire This Time Festival - a drum circle in the park, gets interrupted.

The Ballad of George Zimmerman by Dan O'Brien and Quetzal Flores & directed by local dance and theatre company Techmoja’s Kevin Lee-Y Green - A moving, folk opera retelling of the night Trayvon Martin lost his life.

Passion Play by Pippin Parker from Naked Angels, a troubled couple explores a church on a European vacation.
