How World War II Impacted Wilmington and the Burgwin-Wright House
On June 6, the 79th anniversary of D-Day, the Burgwin-Wright House will step back in time to 1944 when the house served as the Cornwallis Lounge for Officers of the Armed Forces.
Beginning at 9am, guests will be able to enjoy refreshments in the visitor’s center and walk through the house to see historical photos of how the rooms were staged as the officers’ lounge during the war.
At 10am, guests are invited to the visitors’ center for a special lecture by Wilmington’s premiere WWII historian Wilbur Jones detailing the many roles of Wartime Wilmington, including the resounding impact of the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company and what the downtown area would have looked like for the visiting soldiers and officers.
Admission is $10- all proceeds benefit the preservation of the house and gardens. Reservations are required due to limited seating. Please call 910-762-0570 and ask for Christine or Hunter. Please do not email or PM.
