Big Dawg Productions is proud to present “What the Constitution Means to Me”, running May 22-25 and May 29-June 1 at the Ruth and Bucky Stein Theater in Thalian Hall.
Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this humorous, hopeful and achingly human play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women in her family and the founding document that shaped their lives. The play delves into the document's meaning, its history, and its relevance to contemporary issues, sparking critical discussions about American society and its values.
Schreck's personal stories and family anecdotes bring the Constitution to life, making it relatable and human.
The play addresses current events and debates, encouraging audiences to consider the Constitution's impact on their own lives and the nation.
The production includes a live debate segment, engaging audiences and prompting reflection on the Constitution's meaning and relevance.
The play offers a valuable opportunity for audiences to explore American history, civic engagement, and the power of the Constitution, through an evening of poignant and entertaining storytelling.
