Thalian Hall Main Stage

In 1921 Jimmy Gralton's sin was to build a dance hall on a rural crossroads in an Ireland on the brink of Civil War. As the hall grew in popularity its socialist and free-spirited reputation brought it to the attention of the church and politicians who forced Jimmy to flee and the hall to close. After ten years of exile in America, Jimmy returns home to high levels of poverty and oppression. The activist in him reawakens and he looks to re-open the dance hall that led to his deportation. Benefiting from a talented cast and sensitive work from director Ken Loach, Jimmy’s Hall offers a period drama rich with relevant sociopolitical themes. (Rated PG-13, 1 hour 46 minutes)

"There's humanity here, on all sides, and gentle wisdom beneath the raging rhetoric."- Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer

"A great cast along with Loach's trademark realism and capable storytelling deliver a tale of quiet power, with an ending that is sure to deliver a jolt of righteous outrage."- Bruce Demara, Toronto Star
