Don't jump-the first sound you'll hear in this interview is Jason Aycock's tennis shoes pounding on the floor of the MC Erny Gallery at WHQR. Aycock joined us to talk about an upcoming performance of Cripple Creek Cloggers, and he was kind enough to share a clogging lesson while he was here.
Cripple Creek Cloggers have been around for nearly 35 years-the group was formed by Aycock's parents in 1982. In addition to recreational lessons for youth and adults at Cripple Creek Corner, the performance team presents traditional and contemporary clogging shows and competes with other teams, winning 5 National Championships. Folkstone Stringband will join the group on Saturday night at Thalian Hall for the traditional part of the show; listen to Aycock talk about the roots of this folk dance and how it continues to evolve above.
