Even though City of Wilmington offices are closed until December 27th, trash service will run on a regular schedule. Here are a few useful reminders for that post-holiday trash.
A large part of the garbage haul from Christmas Day is actually recyclable.
Cardboard and non-foil wrapping paper can be tossed into recycle bins.
The City of Wilmington is making it easy on residents this season: any recyclable material that won’t fit in the Big Blue carts can be placed at the curb in a box, bin or paper bag and it will be picked up at no charge. But City officials are asking residents to break down and flatten cardboard boxes. And remember: foil wrapping paper is NOT recyclable.
For garbage that can’t be recycled, the City will pick up excess trash at no charge until January 1st. After that, city customers must purchase stickers for any trash that doesn’t fit in the cart.

Christmas trees
If you are a city trash customer, the city will recycle your Christmas tree. Simply remove all decorations and lights from the tree and put it curbside with any other vegetative debris on your normal service day.
Please be sure not to place the tree near any storm drains and be sure it does not block access to any mailboxes or sidewalks.

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
Christmas Tree recycling will begin on December 26th. The landfill will accept Christmas Trees free of charge from December 26th through January 31st. The convenience sites will accept trees during this time also, however, there is a $5.00 charge for disposal of Christmas Trees at the convenience sites.
