As a powerful Category 2 hurricane, Dorian could bring life-threatening storm surge and flooding. But the intensity of those impacts depend on how close Dorian comes to the North Carolina coast.
"The most likely arrival time of tropical storm force winds will be early Thursday morning and through the day with the worst conditions expected Thursday afternoon through the evening hours."
That’s National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Scalora.
He says that it’s true Dorian is not comparable to last year’s Hurricane Florence, but with statewide mandatory evacuations for barrier islands, this storm is not to be taken lightly.
"It is dangerous in that the center of the storm is going to move quite close to the coast – but in terms of what you’re saying compared to Florence – it’s definitely not going to be lasting quite as long but that doesn’t negate the fact that there’s going to be a lot of heavy rain, flooding, and inundation problems with this storm, as well."
