North Carolina House Districts in the Cape Fear region saw incumbents keep their seats. But in some cases, they just squeaked through.
Ted Davis, Jr. of District 19 edged out Democratic challenger Marcia Morgan by 952 votes. That’s only about 2.5 points. Holly Grange of District 20 fought off Democrat Leslie Cohen – by a slightly larger margin of 2004 votes or about 5.5 points. Just two years ago, both Davis and Grange ran unopposed.
In neighboring District 18, Democratic Incumbent Deb Butler had a much stronger lead over her Republican challenger of almost 28 points.
"I’m optimistic that campaigns were run well, and people worked so hard, and the turnout was enormous. I hope to have company in the General Assembly. I really do."
She’s still the lone House Democrat from southeastern North Carolina.
Republican Carson Smith, Sheriff of Pender County, will serve as Representative for House District 16 after beating Democrat John Johnson by almost 19 points. And Frank Iler of Brunswick County gets ready for a fifth term in House District 17.
All results are unofficial until votes are canvassed later this month.
