Election 2017: Leland Town Council, Part 2
The Leland Town Council has four members that serve staggered four-year terms. One of the biggest challenges facing Leland Town Council is dealing with the rapid growth and accompanying infrastructure needs. There are four candidates on the ballot for the two open seats. Bob Corriston is a current Leland Council member seeking his second term, while Joy Cranidiotis is running for the first time.
Council member Bob Corriston strongly supports future growth in Leland.
“In fact, I was at a meeting with the other candidates. The question was asked by a gentleman in the audience, either give me a yes or no answer: Do you think Leland should slow down the growth because it's moving too fast? I said no, no, we've got to continue moving forward. And the other three candidates they all said yes, that we should slowdown the growth.”
Joy Cranidiotis says Leland has to stop letting developers cut corners, and must be held accountable.
“I would do everything in my power to hold developers to what they say they're going to do. On paper the planning would have to be very, very well scrutinized, perhaps a bond. I've been in meetings where I've heard developers say: ’I think so’ as their answer… that is not an acceptable answer.”
Election Day is November 7. Early voting is underway
