CoastLine: Paul Wilkes on Finding Meaningful Contribution after Retirement

When it’s time to retire, to step away from your work, let go of your professional identity and your daily routine – what comes next?

Some people answer that question by working on their golf game, spending time with grandchildren, joining boards, or traveling the world.  But what if there was more to life than that?  What if the next segment could be the most meaningful?  What if your greatest contribution is still to come?

In his book Your Second to Last Chapter:  Creating a Meaningful Life on Your Own Terms, Paul Wilkes makes his case for finding one's own corner of the garden to transform.

Paul Wilkes has written for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and The New York Times Magazine.  He produced a documentary about Thomas Merton which aired on PBS.  More recently, he served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

He's written more than twenty books.  But Your Second to Last Chapter is the result of work that began ten years ago in India – where he founded Homes of Hope to support orphanages and schools for children in need.
