The Miracle League of Wilmington will soon boast an open and handicapped-accessible field and playground. This weekend, members unveiled the new recreational facility – at 5510 Olsen Park Lane in Wilmington. That’s according to WWAY TV3.
This field, unlike other ball fields, is not made out of dirt. Instead, builders used materials that allow anyone with special needs, including wounded warriors and seniors, to access the park.
Angela Blanton says she is happy her two special needs daughters now have a comfortable place to play.
"They will be thrilled to not have to not have to maneuver around dirt, potholes. They will not expend all of their energy getting to the field and being exhausted by the time they get to play."
Blanton’s daughters, Maggie and Bonnie, along with a host of other children, tested out the bases after a private ceremony on Saturday.
The day also celebrated this region’s efforts to build the nation’s largest Miracle Field through a public-private partnership. Due to generous donations from local businesses, the stadium is named for Brax, Ltd. The field is dubbed PPD Miracle Field.
