NHC begins accepting applications for heat assistance

Today the New Hanover County Department of Social Services begins accepting applications for help with heating costs for the winter. Applications will be taken until the end of March or until funding is exhausted.

Funding priority will be given to households with someone who is disabled and receives services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services. Priority will also be given to households with residents 60 years of age or older. Only these priority type households that meet all requirements will be eligible. The application process starts today and runs through January or until funding is exhausted. All other households may apply beginning in February through the end of March, but only if funding is still available. There is no automatic eligibility; all interested households must make an application. Applicants need a form of identification, verification of household income and a copy of a heating bill when applying.

Applications will be taken Monday through Friday at the New Hanover County Department of Social Services located at 1650 Greenfield Street, Wilmington, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

If you have any questions, please call the New Hanover County Department of Social Services at (910) 798-3400.
