Pender Co. Schools Superintendent Now on the Job

Pender High School

The new superintendent for Pender County Schools, Terri Cobb, is in her second week on the job.

WHQR’s Michelle Bliss reports that Cobb has been touring all sixteen schools across the district, meeting with administrators and community members.

Cobb says that starting her job in the middle of the school year is a challenge.

“There’s a lot of programs that are already in place, absolutely fabulous programs. You know, obviously getting in and trying to learn those at this time of the year, learn more about them, that’s obviously something I’m going to have to spend a lot of time on. And that was the very purpose of the 90-day plan, so that for the next 90 days, you’re going to see me learning as much as I can.”

She has developed a 90-day plan at the board of education’s request, highlighting her top priorities. Student performance topped her list.

“The first is achievement and that is absolutely the one that we will have in the forefront continuously. We want to make sure that every child in Pender County receives the very best education possible, and so that will be our priority.”

Cobb’s priorities also include managing fiscal and other resources, along with maintaining a safe environment for students.

According to a board of education long-term, 20-year plan, Pender will need expanded infrastructure—including a new high school—to meet community needs as the population continues to grow.
