A Cinderella Story Finds its Glass Slipper in Wilmington's Film Community
By Laura Hunsberger
02-10-11 – A division of Warner Bros. began filming a new project called A Cinderella Story this week in Wilmington.
The film is budgeted for $5 million with an estimated $3.5 million spent in Wilmington and across the state. North Carolina offers a 25% refundable tax credit, but a producer on the project, Tom Keniston, says the port city offers more than an economic draw.
"The tax incentive legislation was massively influential as to why we would come here because actually North Carolina has one of the best programs going and Wilmington, North Carolina has one of the best crew bases outside of Los Angeles and New York."
The film will employ 60-75 local crew members in addition to using local businesses and shooting locations.
Lucy Hale from the ABC Family series Pretty Little Liars is starring as a contemporary Cinderella opposite Freddie Stroma from the Harry Potter series.
Filming will wrap mid-March and the movie is scheduled to premier on ABC Family this fall.
