Wilmington, NC – The State Board of Elections has postponed a vote that would determine whether it would lift the termination status of State Representative Thomas Wright's campaign.
The State Board of Elections says it put off the vote until April to give Wright adequate notice and the opportunity to be available for the vote.
The Board of Elections terminated the active status of Wright's campaign after he failed to turn in campaign finance reports.
The New Hanover County democrat has filed for reelection, but the termination status means he can neither raise nor spend money on his campaign.
The State Board of Elections calls the consideration of Wright's campaign status "part of the procedure" and not a special vote being extended to Wright.
A majority vote of the five-member Board of Elections is required to repeal the termination status.
Wright is currently facing criminal charges of fraud and obstruction of justice centered around his campaign finances. He has maintained that he is guilty of nothing more than sloppy bookkeeping.
