Wilmington, NC – The President of Cape Fear Community College will stay in the job until the college finds a replacement.
The Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees announced Tuesday that once two of the top five finalists withdrew their applications the pool of candidates was too low to move on, so it's extending the search.
College President Eric McKeithan was suppose to step down next month but now says he will stay on until a new president is in place.
The college says the move does not reflect the quality of the remaining applicants but rather the competition for college presidents in North Carolina.
McKeithan announced his resignation last November. He said he's stepping down to give the next president of Cape Fear Community College time to transition in the next generation of college leaders.
