Wilmington, NC – Wilmington Police say a teenaged suspect is in custody for the murder of a Wilmington store clerk.

Police say 18-year-old Sherod Bernard Johnson was arrested Tuesday night in New York City for last month's murder of Mohammad Abdelhamid at a grocery store in Wilmington's historic district.

The victim's brother, Feras Abdelhamid says he's relieved that there's a suspect in custody.

Hopefully people learn from this, you know. It's not easy to lose a brother, you know, so it's very hard and hopefully justice will be served.

Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous says tips from the community and a partnership with the United States Marshal Service helped law enforcement track down Johnson to New York City.

I tell you it has worked for us, has worked for the community and they are an integral part of this organization of this city.

Evangelous says Johnson is a suspect in another unrelated case.
