Thank you for all that you do to make this community more vibrant. -- Meg

I’m just 'shootin' you guys [some money] because I'm loving the night time music schedule. The Jazz has kept me from too much tv watching during the week, and Soup to Nuts, Smooth Landings etc have been so awesome lately too. Thanks for your sliver of sanity on a cluttered radio dial!!

I found that by tuning my car radio to your music station while I was in Wilmington, I can still get it in/around Southport (smiley face). I had been unable to tune into it from Southport.

I absolutely LOVE WHQR. As much as I appreciate Classical music, I have thoroughly enjoyed the availability of talk radio all day. Thank you for all that you do to make this community more vibrant.

Well, our little sliver of vibrancy is how we like to think of WHQR. Thank you.

Listener Betty Waller Gray of Richmond, who describes herself as a civil rights activist since the early 1960’s, wrote following our broadcast of the funeral of Rev. Clementa Pinckney last Friday:

When will this nation become "one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

I’m going to assume Betty appreciated our pre-emption of several hours of programming for this event. We always try to evaluate such opportunities in light of their historical significance, and the wishes of our listeners. In this case we had no idea that the funeral itself would be stretched to several hours because President Obama had stayed in Washington to issue a statement about the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage, and so was late. Last week was an incredible news week, with the funeral in Charleston and Court rulings on the Affordable Care Act and marriage equality all happening at almost exactly the same time.

We believe that listeners wanting objective coverage of such major events can and should turn to WHQR. I’m a little surprised that we had little reaction one way or another. I hope that’s because you found our coverage met your needs. Thanks for listening.

We posted on our Facebook site a story about Garrison Keillor expressing his intention to retire from A Prairie Home Companion. We don’t know everything for sure, but our post prompted this from Christine Whitley:

One of my favorite personalities of all time. Congratulations and thanks for laughter.

Looking through this week’s Feedbacks, I was struck by the fact that I didn’t have very many. There are several possible explanations: a) no one’s listening; b) everybody’s very happy with the station; or c) hey, it’s summertime. Whatever the reason, now is the time of year when your comment is most likely to be read. And as I usually say,

We’d love to hear from you on Friday Feedback. You can always leave a message via email to feedback@WHQR.org. Our Feedback Phone is 910-292-9477. And thanks for your feedback.
