Friday Feedback for September 26, 2014

Wow! Yipee! Hooray! -- Dr. Don DiGiulian

We’re continuing to hear comments from listeners who like HQR News at 91.3, from those who can like Classical HQR at 96.7, and from those who would like to get 96.7 but can’t receive it. Our web site has a number of hints to help you, such as our Classical HQR web stream, the HD2 signal of 91.3, and more. We’re also investigating ways to get a repeater signal into parts of Brunswick County.

Listener Jackie wrote:

I moved here from Minnesota and I was used to an all news station on my [Minnesota Public Radio] station… I am not a classical music fan so I have been streaming from Minnesota when your music program comes on. A little disconcerting when the blizzard and sub-zero weather reports would come on. I'm glad I will have a local news option.

Listener Hank of Southport wrote:

Perhaps it's too early to tell if I'll continue to support WHQR but judging by the new schedule, probably not. I'll still listen to Morning Edition and Garrison Keillor, Car Talk and Wait, Wait but I see that Midday Cafe is gone and both Marketplace and Great American Songbook are moved to a later time when I've switched over to UNC-TV. You've expanded All Things Considered but for what - to repeat the same news a few more times? BBC News every morning? Really? And Diane Rehm - give me a break! I'm sure that you'll still have plenty of listeners who will benefit by the schedule change, unless they have Sirius/XM. Good Luck! I might send my cup back.

A correction for Hank: Midday Café is not gone. It’s now on at 8 pm.

Listener Carol wrote about problems with receiving 96.7 and asked how she could use a different method. We were able to help her out. She wrote

I was able to get into your website and stream on both my computer and the IPAD. Once I buy [a] Y adapter I will try and see if that will stream it through my Bose player. If that works then I don’t think I will need the HD radio. Will let you know but in the mean time please let me know if you get any deals on the HD radio. I do not have one now.

Will do, Carol.

Wow! Yipee! Hooray! Jazz from 9 to 12 pm. That is so great! Please don't change that. So glad you have made that change.

Mary of Wilmington wrote:

With the launch of HQR last week my enjoyment of life has been drastically changed... I prefer music over talk and I feel totally let down that the station I have known for so long has been changed. Why was the decision made to change the traditional station to talk? It had its own identity and a dedicated following. Some of us felt like it was part of our family after 30 years of involvement. If you were going to create a new station, why did you not make IT the talk station? I will have little incentive to donate to your cause in the future.

Thanks for the new format of WHQR programming. You were very good before, but now I appreciate WHQR even more with your extended news and talk shows. I always have listened to your news in the mornings and then had to switch to the other alternative “Hate Radio” talk and news stations when the classical music started. Classical music is a blessed thing, but kinda like country and jazz but I can only enjoy it in short durations. I prefer to listen to news and comedy venues as well. Now I can always listen to THE TRULY “fair and balanced” news station for more of the day for more news and talk shows.

We’d love to hear from you on Friday Feedback. You can always leave a message via email to feedback@WHQR.org. Our Feedback Phone is 910-292-9477. And thanks for your feedback.
