Friday Feedback for November 11, 2011

Listener Melissa called to say she is feeling grumpy about WHQR. She described herself as a longtime listener who donates regularly. She wanted to voice her concern that the news from NPR is anti-Republican and feels that bias is making her reconsider her support of WHQR. She likes the local news and likes all of the shows. She really likes the combination of news and music and local cultural events. But she feels our country is in debt and going down the wrong path and thinks that NPR has something to do with this decline as it has a pro-Democratic party bias. She ended by saying that she really wants the country to heal itself and the parties to work together for change for the best. Melissa said she will listen for the next fund drive and consider donating again, and concluded by saying "Have a Blessed Day".

Claudia wrote concerning an NPR story on the city of Rockford, Illinois, which is turning off 15 per cent of its streetlights in an effort to save money:

What a great idea for municipalities and individuals to save money AND enhance the environment by reducing light pollution! When we light up the outdoors, we provide light for criminals to do their "work" AND shadows for them to hide in. If we turned out the lights, criminals couldn't see unless they carried a light, making them pretty obvious. Folks would also sleep better without street lights and "decorative" exterior light pouring into their homes. And who doesn't like saving money?

Anonymous from Hampstead:

Well rounded selection, but my personal preference is the various news programming, especially Morning Edition and BBC overnight.

Michael Sollenberger:

I could do without the Diane Rehm show. When I travel out of town and heard her was one of the few times I would put the radio on something other than public radio and now it's here, ack!

Listener Jane:

Thank you for continuing the broadcast of the Diane Rehm show. She is an amazing interviewer and brings out the best in each guest and the facts we need to know. Sometimes the question that springs to my mind is the next one she asks her guests. Despite her voice handicap and the broadcast being taped rather than live, this is one of the best shows WHQR currently offers!
