Film Screening: Park View

Film Screening: Park View
Park View documents the life and murder of 32-year-old lesbian Talana Kreeger and the impact of her death — a horrific event described as a hate crime — on the legal, media, religious and community institutions in the community. Woven into this complex story are the destructive and redemptive aspects of law enforcement, the criminal justice system, journalism and religious institutions of that era.
Despite legislative advances, LGBTQ people have become more vulnerable to the specter of hate crimes in recent years. And, in North Carolina, there are no hate crime protections for queer people. Social workers are well-trained to witness and interpret stories of clients in the confidential settings of clinical agencies, but the urgency of action for the safety of vulnerable communities requires a greater commitment to advocacy.
