The Great Thanksgiving Listen is a part of the popular NPR series, StoryCorps. It's an invitation to teenagers to record an interview with a family member and share it with the world. Interviews will also be archived in the StoryCorps Archive in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. And it's simple-all that's required is a smartphone, the StoryCorps app, and someone to interview.
Record history with a smartphone, the app, and someone to interview!
The first step is to download the free StoryCorps app through Apple or Google Play.
The app will guide you through the process. Users must either be at least 18 years old or at least 13 years old and have parent/guardian permission. The app provides helpful hints and allows you to create multiple interviews. It even helps you prepare for the interview by providing a great list of possible questions. If you are a teacher and want to share this with your students, please browse this Toolkit for tips and ideas.
Once you feel you understand how the app works, choose a subject-perhaps an elder in your family-and find a quiet place to record your interview.
All the information about the project is at The Great Thanksgiving Listen. At WHQR, we hope many young listeners participate in the Listen and let us know about their experiences. If you need help with this project, or to tell us about your interview, please email Gina Gambony at classical@whqr.org.
