CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Communique: 4 Performances Of "Intoxicating" Opera | "Carmen" At UNCW

Opera Wilmington
Carmen rehearsal: Gypsy Song

This summer, Opera Wilmington presents Carmen, the masterpiece by Georges Bizet. It's a tragedy, but a lively and often comic one, with the gypsy Carmen at the center. Australian musicologist Sally Macarthur says Carmen has been called every name in the book, from a seductress to a victim-some say she's a feminist. Opera Wilmington's Artistic Director Nancy King goes with the latter.

Listen above to Nancy King talk about the opera in excerpts from Opera Wilmington's visit to WHQR for A Little Lunch Music. Nancy is joined by performers and pianist Elizabeth Loparits.

There are only 4 performances of the show: Friday, July 21 at 7:00; Sunday, July 23 at 3:00pm; Friday, July 28 at 7:00; and Sunday, July 30 at 3:00. The first Friday performance is preceded by the Gala opening night reception (tickets required), and the final Sunday performance is followed by a cast party (open to all).
