The March edition of Bottega Live features three unique artists: Sarah Brown, Josh Starkey, and the new Wilmington duo For The Birds. WHQR's Bottega Live airs each month in conjunction with Wilmington’s Fourth Friday Gallery Walk, at 8 pm that Friday.
Sarah Brown wandered into Bottega on an open mic night. We just happened to be recording that evening, and got pretty excited when Sarah started to play her original music. Then Will Maxwell happened to walk in with his violin, it got even better.
Sarah Brown is an American singer songwriter with a passion for storytelling through her blues and R&B music! "It wasn't my original plan to become a performer. It was something just sort of stumbled upon and have fallen more in love with musical journey every day! I believe we are all created with a gift or a purpose, some just know while others stumble upon it! I decided to answer my creative calling because of a dream I had. And every time I try to veer away from it I feel something has guided me back to it! I believe God has a plan for us all I believe it is irrevocable and unavoidable!" In recent years Sarah Brown has traveled around showcasing her musical talents in venues ranging from the U.S.A, to Australia and New Zealand.

Next up his Josh Starkey.
“I learned to play the guitar when I was around 14 years old. I started playing out live just outside of a small town known as Altavista, Virginia when I was 19. After playing a few gigs here and there, I joined the likes of Allen Hackworth and Dane Lawhorne to form the band Turning Back Trio or (TB3). We played for a few years in Central VA appearing in Lynchburg, Roanoke, Altavista and Radford. In 2009, I went to live in Prague, CZ for about 6 months and returned to the group formerly known as TB3, then under the name On The Rox. While playing with these guys, I was introduced to Craig Hanson, I’d known Craig before this but never really got to play music with him. Craig and I would go on to create the Acoustic Duo known as FMG (Future Musical Genius) playing with several musicians around town like Eric Hollandsworth, Casey Wood, Joe Barrett, Patrick Skelley, Oona Love and many more.”
Then he came to NC.
“In 2012, I moved to Wilmington, NC joining Junk Yard Mama along with Michael, Richard, and Lou. After going our separate ways, I’ve been fortunate enough to play several places in the Port City solo in the past 7 years.”
