The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra returns to Classical HQR at 7 :00 Wednesday night. Conductor Steven Errante and the band will address the difficulty Beethoven had finding an overture for his one and only opera, Fidelio, and the enigma of Franz Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony No. 8. Emile von Reznicek’s Donna Diana Overture completes the program.
Sandwiched between the Beethoven and Schubert, the WSO will treat listeners to bits of Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, and an aria from Wolfgang Mozart’s last opera, La Clemenza di Tito. Those excerpts feature performances by this year’s winners of the Richard R. Deas Young Artists Concerto Competition. Cellist Chester “C.J.” Tyson, an Ashley High School senior, will solo in the Elgar concerto, and mezzo-soprano Tanya Hanano, a UNCW junior, sings Mozart's demanding aria. Steven Errante offers insights about the music. Sit back and enjoy!
You're invited to the next live WSO concert at 7:30 pm Saturday, March 16, in CFCC's Wilson Center. The trio Jeans ‘n Classics has toured nationwide with over 100 orchestras performing original rock and pop orchestrations. Join us for “Blood Sweat Tears, Earth Wind Fire, and a little Chicago."
