CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

NHC Commissioners Meet Virtually

Vince Winkel

In this week’s virtual meeting, New Hanover County Commissioners received an update on COVID-19 testing in Wilmington, and voted on a real estate deal to expand the county landfill.

County Manager Chris Coudriet told commissioners that 180 people were tested for the virus in the first three days of drive-through testing last week, and that the downtown site would be open Wednesday through Friday of this week. He says they expect to continue testing for a few weeks.

In addition, Commissioner Pat Kusek was chosen by a 3-2 vote to replace Woody White on the New Hanover County Health and Human Services Board. White recently resigned his seat. Kusek, White and Julia Olson-Boseman supported Kusek. Jonathan Barfield and Rob Zapple voted for Zapple.

Also, Commissioners unanimously voted to purchase eight acres along Highway 421, to expand the footprint of the county landfill. Vince Winkel, WHQR News.
