The path as of Tuesday for Hurricane Dorian.

This afternoon Hurricane Dorian is continuing to move up the coast of Florida. It’s expected to reach the Cape Fear region, some 25 miles offshore, early Thursday morning.

This morning New Hanover County and Wilmington city officials discussed preparations for the storm. They caution that despite the eye of the hurricane likely to remain 25 miles from the shore, the region can expect powerful and destructive winds. County Emergency Operations Director Steven Still.

“Dorian's winds will extend 45 miles out from the center of the storm. Hurricane Force storm strength winds. Strong tropical storm force winds extend roughly 80 miles out from the center of this storm and tropical storm force winds - that's generally 39 miles an hour to 73 miles per hour - extend roughly 150 miles off of the center of the storm.”

That means those living even 100 miles inland should be preparing for hurricane - like conditions. Vince Winkel, WHQR News.
