Wilmington Int'l Airport Adds Seasonal Route

Vince Winkel
American Airlines is adding a seasonal non-stop flight to Dallas in December.

Dallas, Texas is about to get a lot closer to Wilmington. American Airlines just announced they will be operating non-stop flights between Dallas and Wilmington International Airport beginning in December. However the new flights are not permanent.

The route, which will be the only flight from ILM into the Central Time Zone, is seasonal. The daily non-stops will fly from December 23 to January 7.

Airport officials say the big draw of this route is connecting service to places like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

Gary Broughton is the airport’s Deputy Director. He hopes the Dallas flights will help in the continuing efforts to expand regular routes out of Wilmington.

“What this does is it gives us a chance to prove to American (Airlines) that the community is behind it and the value of the market that it brings to them for their bottom line, and Dallas being in our top ten, I mean that is always where we are with our air service development is when we meet with the airlines, is pushing our top ten destinations and trying to get more non-stop service out of Wilmington to these areas.”

American Airlines also flies to Charlotte, New York’s LaGuardia, Philadelphia and seasonally to Washington D.C.

Delta flies to Atlanta.
