The eyes of the golf world will be on Wilmington for the Wells Fargo Championship in May.

The commitments from players are starting to roll in for the Wells Fargo Championship, set for May at Eagle Point Golf Club.

PGA Tournament officials have announced that two of golf’s biggest names have committed to the tournament.

Phil Mickelson, a World Golf Hall of Fame member and winner of 42 career PGA Tour titles, will be competing in his 14th Wells Fargo Championship. The winner of five major championships holds the tournament record for the most top-ten finishes with nine.

Also this week Adam Scott of Australia tossed his hat in the ring. Scott became the first Australian to win the Masters Tournament with his 2013 victory in Augusta, and has won 13 times on the PGA TOUR and 13 times in International competition

The tournament runs from May 1st through the 7th at Eagle Point, and is expected to draw tens of thousands of golf fans to the region, and pump close to $40 million into the local economy, according to PGA officials.
