Wilmington, NC – As part of a tour of meetings across the state, the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Thom Tillis, will hold a town hall in Wilmington Thursday.
Topics at prior meetings have included education funding in the budget, the voter ID bill, the unemployment rate, and the economy.
Spokesperson Jordan Shaw says Tillis wants to reconnect with voters after a busy legislative session.
"We have problems in North Carolina that are going to take longer than one legislative session to fix, but those are the kinds of things that are only going to be addressed and are only going to be solved by taking these issues directly before the people."
Shaw says the goal of the meetings is to spur new solutions by hearing from the people.
"We take notes, we interact with Town Hall attendees after the event is over, we make sure their questions are answered. It's absolutely in the cards for some substantive policy to come out of these town halls."
Six meetings were held last month at locations including Clayton and Newbern. Later this month, Tillis will also visit Salisbury.
The town hall meeting will be at Cape Fear Community College downtown Thursday at 5pm. Reservations are requested.
