08-27-10 – As Hurricane Danielle builds strength in the open Atlantic, conditions at Wrightsville Beach still look clear and inviting. City officials warn that appearances can be deceiving.
With sunny skies in the forecast and the weekend ahead, many local residents are sure to head to the beach.
Dave Baker is the Ocean Rescue Director of Wrightsville Beach. He says this month's rescue numbers are record setting.
"We had over two hundred and fourteen rescues in just one day and one rip current pulled out twenty people at once."
Forecasters from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association expect the groundswell from Hurricane Danielle to reach North Carolina coastlines tomorrow. Baker says after Danielle, tropical storm Earl will keep rescuers busy for the next week and a half.
