Wilmington, NC – Artists at Carolina Beach will roll out big machinery tomorrow to create 4-foot by 8-foot prints. They've rented a steamroller to get the job done.
Jennifer Page, who owns Cape Fear Press, says she's not the first one to have the idea of running over block prints with a steamroller, but she was the first one to actually do it in the Southeast.
This year, 14 artists, some of them traveling from across the U.S., will bring their wood cuts to be run over by a three ton steam roller on Cape Fear Boulevard. Page says she'll be driving, "It's noisy, but it's fun."
There will also be print making station for kids, where they'll get a chance to learn block printing and Japanese fish printing.
Page says, last year they had a great turnout and people cheered whenever a print was revealed.
