Wilmington, NC – Coastal officials say boaters need to remember that coastal waters are now a No Discharge Zone.
That means any disposal of boat vessel sewage isn't allowed within three nautical miles along the coastline.
Steve Dellies is the Stormwater Manager at Wrightsville Beach. He says boat waste is harmful to more than wildlife.
"It could cause illness in humans as well. And it really depends on their level of immunity but most of the time what we see is like dermatitis, skin infections, eye infections or gastrointestinal problems," says Dellies.
Dellies says boaters will need to dispose of their waste at local pump-out facilities.
There are nine of them within New Hanover County's No Discharge Zone.
