Wilmington, NC – After announcing it will no longer insure homes on North Carolina's barrier islands, State Farm is now dropping mobile home coverage for some coastal residents.
The insurance company developed a map of areas at risk for storm surge, and coastal customers living inside those areas will soon receive a notice that their policies will not be renewed. Last summer, Nationwide Insurance eliminated mobile home coverage across the state.
North Carolina Department of Insurance spokesperson Kristen Milam says mobile homeowners still have choices.
"Don't be afraid to shop around. There are options out there. North Carolina does have a very active mobile homeowner's insurance marketplace."
Milam says while the state's Beach Plan is an option for mobile home owners, it won't be as comprehensive as private insurance.
