Former Security Officer Faces Federal Prison Time

By Ken Little

Wilmington, NC – The former owner of the Wilmington private police agency Inter-Pol won't be prosecuted in Superior Court on child sex abuse charges because he already faces federal prison time.

State charges against 45-year-old Joseph Guarascio that include statutory rape have been satisfied with his guilty plea last week in federal court on charges of manufacturing child pornography, prosecutor Connie Jordan says.

The former New York police officer was arrested last October after a 14-year-old girl reported she had been sexually assaulted.

Forensic analysis of Guarascio's cell phone and computer revealed another underage victim and over three thousand images of child pornography.

He could serve up to 30 years in prison when sentenced in January on the child pornography charges.
