Wilmington, NC – Wilmington City Council will mull over changing storm water ordinances at tonight's city council meeting. The city is moving fast to comply with recently passed state laws. The changes impact developers and discourage residents from causing runoff problems.
According to the new storm water plans, developers would no longer have to apply for a permit from the state. Instead, they would apply to the city, possibly saving thousands of dollars.
Philip Prete, Senior Environmental Engineer for the City, says the proposed ordinances will be good for developers.
"It will streamline the bureaucratic process and it will be a one stop shop for developers for getting their permits."
Another component involves fining residents two-hundred and fifty dollars if they do not pick up their dog poop or for sweeping yard waste into the streets, which can clog storm drains.
